You’re an EBay trader -
is that lucrative?
I wouldn’t describe it as lucrative, it’s more just a progression and another means of selling. The market place changes all the time. First it was record boxes at venues, and then lists came along. Record fairs, car boot sales now it’s Internet web sites and EBay is just one facet of that. Whatever means you use – it’s still bloody hard work!
Personally, I still like selling out of boxes at venues. However, it’s always nice when you can achieve good prices for records you don’t want and that’s a plus for EBay.
The record-collecting thing is supply and demand and dictates itself. This month I’ve spent more on CD’s than records
Talking about CDs -
some people say they shouldn’t be used at Northern Soul nights - what’s your
view?
Oh – I think that’s just a few people. The northern scene has always had some folks with strong opinions and they often tend to have the loudest voices.
“The skill of a DJ is selection and timing”
Over the years I’ve owned many big Northern records, I use both and make no apologies for using CDs. To me a CD is a round thing containing music, so much like a 45 in that respect.
The skill of a DJ is selection and timing and it’s what’s in the groove that counts. If ownership is an issue, then all you need to do is buy them.
Are you still a record
collector?
No, I am an accumulator of records because I make my living as a DJ and record dealer. I’m not a serious collector and try not to pay too much for any record. At one time I owned over 600,000 records and that’s a real pain in the arse when you run out of room.
