Priscilla White was born in Liverpool on May 27th 1943 and grew up in Scotland Road which she often referred to as Scottie Road.

A far from luxurious working class home in an area famous for poverty, violence and secretarian division. She started her career as a cloakroom attendant at the Cavern Club in Liverpool and after auditioning for Brian Epstein was signed as his only female artist aged just 20.

Anyone Who Had A Heart reached number one in Great Britain selling over a million copies and became the UK’s biggest selling record by a female artist in the 1960s. The TV show Cilla proved a huge success in 1968 with audiences of 22 million and ran for eight years. She performed duets with some musical greats including Dusty Springfield, Tom Jones and Barry Manilow. Her television career went from strength to strength with hit shows like Surprise Surprise and Blind Date.

The recent public outpouring of grief at her death reminds us all that Cilla Black was considered a national treasure by many of her fans. Her undying love for Bobby Willis is the stuff of a romantic novel and that story is told so well in the recent TV biography Cilla with Sheridan Smith and Aneurin Barnard.
